LMFF fever is taking over Melbourne this week. Never one to miss out on the action, Fat has opened a pop-up shop for the duration of the festival only.YURT

We know what you’re thinking: pop-up shop, big woop, it’s not like we haven’t seen enough of those this summer. Pop yourself back in your box, mister! But most pop-up shops aren’t in a traditional Mongolian Yurt, showcasing the new Perpetual Leisure collection from Montreal-based label Complex Geometries, and a special line of jewellery developed with artist Harakiri.

Swing by, if only just to wonder how on earth a camel could carry that thing!

    FAT PRESENTS: COMPLEXGEOMETRIES
RMIT Alumni Court, Old Melbourne Gaol, 377 Russell St, Melbourne

    Limedrop pop-up in Melbourne's GPO

    Pop-up shops

Apart from the words ‘studio sale’ (more on that later) nothing gets Melbourne’s fashion flunkies foaming at the mouth like the words ‘pop-up shop’.

While many holiday season pop-ups popped down this month, Alexi Freeman is still hanging on to his prized position in the Melbourne’s GPO until the end of January, promising 10% off all current and past stock (20% if you mention the That’s Melbourne blog!).  Just down the hall, the Limedrop pop-up is keeping its doors open until 31 January, so there’s still time to get your pincers on a well-priced signature oval dress or a pair of Bermuda shorts. Further north, QV is home to MYL and Crimson Phoenix (in Albert Coates Lane) and Melbourne Central is harbouring Lulamae (in a tiny temporary store designed by Breathe Architects)  – both until the end of January.

Of course, no-one ever just pops in to a pop-up shop. Maybe they should be called slow-motion-splurge stores. Beware.

    January sales!

Some of us can think of nothing worse than getting up at 4am on Boxing Day, two hours before we went to bed, just to stake ourselves out in the Bourke Street Mall and wait for the doors to open on an array of discounted sheet sets. If that some of us includes you, don’t despair. There are plenty of fruitful sale flags still flying in our fair city.

    Alphaville

Printed tees and tanks reduced to $30, until 17 January or sold out!

    Swensk

Heavily reduced one offs and classic Swedish pieces from the ultimate pioneers of slow fashion.
