Yearning for something a little different this weekend? Let Slow Sundays introduce you to Bopha Devi , a restaurant specialising in the light and fragrant cuisine of Cambodia, commonly known as Khmer food.

    Bopha Devi restaurant at Docklands

Cambodia’s Vietnamese and  Thai neighbours are better known ‘round these parts but, once tried,  Khmer food is a welcome addition to Melbourne’s multicultural menu. Khmer food blends Chinese and Indian flavours with a strong French influence, reflecting Cambodia’s 90 years as a French colonial outpost.

This Sunday, why not try the Bopha Devi Slow Sundays specials. First there’s Prahok Ktih – a traditional Cambodian dish of spicy minced chicken, coconut milk and prahok (fermented salted fish similar to anchovies), served with crunchy vegetables.

Then there’s the Char Kroeung comprising tofu cooked with toasted peanuts, lime leaves, lemongrass, turmeric, bean shoots, carrots and capsicum. Vegetarian fare that everyone will enjoy.

Either dish will go down quite nicely with a cold beer – choose from Singha or a Cascade Light, or the house shiraz or semillion-sauvignon blanc.

Slow Sundays at Docklands,  every Sunday until 29 August, between 2pm and 6pm. Enjoy a small meal and a selected beer or wine for only $15. At participating restaurants. Conditions apply.

The waiting for Duck Duck Goose began in September 2007, when we first started to hear great things about this new restaurant.

We heard Duck Duck Goose would be bringing Chinese food to another level both in taste, concept and service. And we really, really wanted to experience it for ourselves. And now, we finally have!

The restaurant serves food best described as Cantonese-French fusion, overseen by renowned Sydney chef, Haru, (from the one-hatted restaurant, Blanc Haru).

Diners will enjoy the elegant architectural dining space as well as the food  – it’s a striking addition to the QV centre’s dining options.

The images above were taken at the restaurant’s launch.

Are you going to Duck Duck Goose soon? Let us know what you think!

  3. Slow Sundays: Renzo’s bar

Wondering what to do today? Here’s a suggestion: wander down to Docklands for some of the best pizza west of the river and take advantage of the Slow Sundays $15 meal deal.

    Renzo's bar blog

Renzo’s bar, one of first restaurants to open in Docklands, is popular with both locals and visitors for its thin and crispy homemade pizzas and fine traditional Italian fare.

The Slow Sundays menu provides a choice of one of their famous pizzas topped with Italian sausage, goat cheese and roasted capsicum, house-made ravioli filled with prawns and salmon served on a bed of baby spinach or veal spezzatino, slow-cooked veal served with potatoes, peas and carrots.

Enjoy with a glass of house chardonnay or shiraz – and if you’re still not ready to face that fast-moving world outside, try one of Renzo’s heavenly desserts.
