Six essential things to do before summer ends

From outdoor markets to cinemas under the stars; to the latest restaurants and bars, here’s your to-do list before summer ends.

SHOP: QVM Summer Night Market

Make sure you shop and eat your fill at this hugely popular summer night market before it closes on 8 March. Nibble on offerings from some of Melbourne’s best restaurants while watching live entertainment from two stages.  Then, head to the likes of Tara Treasures, Made In Japan and Tinka The Label to shop ’til you drop.

PLAY: NGV Friday Nights

NGV Friday Nights gives visitors after-hours access to some of the biggest exhibitions at NGV International including David Hockney: Current and Viktor & Rolf: Fashion Artists. Enjoy some of the best art in Melbourne, along with on-site food and bars throughout the night. A line-up of Australian musicians keep crowds entertained in the Great Hall, with DJs in the NGV Garden. Ends Friday 10 March.

DRINK: Barbarella Gelato and Wine

Tucked into a corner in the Block Arcade, follow the signature pozzetti cabinets to find Barbarella Gelato and Wine. Offering favourite products from the Spring Street Grocer and The City Wine Shop, a boutique wine range and eight gelati flavours are available everyday. Food is kept simple with toasted sandwiches, bagels and salads.

EAT: Downstairs at Lee Ho Fook

A South-East Asian institution in Melbourne, Lee Ho Fook has recently opened a downstairs restaurant and bar. A quintessentially Melbourne hidey-hole, options are a condensed version of the restaurant menu. Signature crispy eggplant, along with a few rotating specials are available alongside a menu of beer, cocktails and sake. The bar fits just 16-18 people, so be prepared to come early, or wait.

SEE: QV Outdoor Cinema, Book of Mormon

QV Outdoor Cinema

The QV Outdoor Cinema wraps up on Sunday 26 February, but there are still many great films lined-up before closing night. Family-friendly screenings include Finding Dory and Inside Out, while The Conjuring 2 and The Notebook are the perfect excuse to cuddle closer. Closing night features a surprise film with details to be released.

Book of Mormon

No doubt about it, The Book of Mormon has become one of the biggest hits of the summer. New seats have just been released so you can laugh your way into autumn. If you’re on a budget, try your luck in their daily lottery to win cheap tickets, which is drawn two hours before the night’s performance.
